It’s been a year, since life as we knew it came to a halt. Many saw it coming and many previously in denial found themselves face to face with a sudden shift in their realities. All we could do then was hope.
We hoped for the suffering to end and for things to go back to normal, not realizing that it never will.
The shift that the world experienced brought with it a shift in facets that we are still finding to this day, and will continue to, for a foreseeable future.
One such thing is travel.
When the world shut down and every country closed its borders to protect the precious lives of its citizens, travel industry took a hit it might’ve not been prepared for.
Decline in tourism was noted to be at 80% by the UN World Tourism Organization.
Hong Kong reported a 91% decline in arrivals in first seven months of 2020, compared to 2019, resulting in a rapid decline in its economy.
In many corners of the world, countries sustain themselves primarily through tourism. The necessary measure put such countries and at risk.
With 100 million jobs at the door of their fate, it became of utmost importance to find a safe way around, which is where Travel Bubble comes in.
Also known as Travel bridges or Corona Corridors, Travel Bubble is the newest term in the world of travel.
Introduced among countries showing success in containment of the virus, Travel bubble is a contract that opens its borders with each other in hopes of re-establishing the connection once lost.
Other than countries struggling to keep afloat in these unprecedented times, the need for travel bubble is also felt among groups of people urgently looking for some aspect of their lives to go back to how it once may have been.
Travel meant freedom to some, home to others. It meant independence, hope, growth. It meant living a life of quality.
Travel Bubble allows such people, among others to follow the protocols and resume a lifestyle resembling one from before.
While talking about Travel Bubble, it’s impossible to not mention New Zealand and Australia.
New Zealand’s major export is Tourism, but the compassion of its people for their fellow humans that has forever jotted its name as the country that showed great leadership and effective decision making resulting in containment of the virus. Australia comes in close second.
If Travel Bubble was to be tested, there were no two better candidates than New Zealand and Australia.
Since then, many other countries and regions have banner with covid-19 precaution list in public place outdoor together to bring about a sense of familiarity in the field of tourism, since the idea is ‘additional freedom without additional harm.’
And it’s a good one.
Many parts of the world have resumed life in hopes to get back to their old lives, some more safely than others.
But if there’s one thing to learn from the leaders of the world coming together to find a way to make the best of a situation, it is to keep moving forward.
And, with compassion.
Hopefully, there will come a time again when we will be able to freely go wherever we wish. I look forward to that.
