As I have mentioned before, traveling with family is perhaps one of the best ways to strengthen your relationships.
But as I am sure most people reading already know, even the slightest of things going off track can blow the whole thing off, in a matter of seconds.

So, when my father, my sister and I were looking for a hotel in Pattaya region for our 9 nights 10 days’ vacation, it was important for us to find a place we could unwind and relax, and take a good night’s sleep.

As usual, we turned to online reviews of places we had shortlisted. A word of caution I often pay attention to, is to look at as many reviews as possible, and not only a few. This helps in informing us of the good, the bad, and the ugly, instead of only one of those.

The reviews led us to The InterContinental Pattaya Resort, and to say it exceeded all expectations would be an understatement.

Outdoors

Set on a green, forested headland overlooking Koh Larn (Coral Island) and the Gulf of Thailand, InterContinental Pattaya Resort offers elegantly-designed accommodation with views of your choosing, be it the lush tropical gardens or the deep blue sea.

This resort proudly boasts three beautiful, lagoon-style pools, which we appreciated as much as the sparkling beaches in the surrounding regions. They are perfect for swimming or taking a dip, to relax poolside while basking in the sun afterwards. There’s even a shallow one called Splash Lagoon, especially for the children.

Room with a view

It was a rainy day when we arrived to our warm welcome. At check-in, we were offered traditional orchid garland and a very refreshing herbal tea (which I wish I had asked for the recipe of). We declined the buggy service as it would’ve been an injustice and an insult to not take a walk through the luxuriant green gardens full of tranquility and peace.

Indoor

The modern suite was comfortable and large. The Club Tropical Terrace Suite had a private sala, overlooking the garden and one of the lagoons. There was a need felt for a separate attached dining room that suites are famous for, because of Halal reasons, we had brought our own Muslim Food Range and dining in a room without a table was inconvenient.
That being said, hardworking housekeepers made sure to provide us with the best service to make our stay as pleasant as possible.

Activities

There are all sorts of activities for everyone.

Intercontinental Pattaya offers a tour of the stunning islands in Gulf of Thailand aboard Princess Yacht as well a ride to the island directly from the resort on a speedboat. Or, one can explore underwater with glass-bottomed boats.
There are shopping malls and bazaars nearby for the shoppers, accessible by a shuttle service, and swimming, snorkeling, and sunbathing on Coral Islands (Koh Larn) for those who love water. Those who like fitness have to them available a 24-hour fitness center with all types of equipment. Those looking to just relax and noting more have a variety of beauty treatments available in Amburaya Spa. Starting your day with breakfast buffet in Elements Restaurant was a highlight of every day.

People, the staff, perhaps was one of the highlights of the whole experience at the resort.

We were booked into the Suite by the efficient Bobby – the Club Intercontinental Butler. Despite being on a leave, Miss Rungtiwa Boontam, the Club Intercontinental Manager, had the room prepared just as per my request. Thanks for the extraordinary housekeeping goes to Ms. Panutchakron Lapapan and Mr. Suphachit Uthaisa (Got). The concierge team is very friendly. Mr. Thanawut Kadkrathok (Toni) handled all our inquiries personally. If Toni isn’t around, look for Jotupol. Tae (Santi), Kim and Nui from the Elements Restaurant team are really great people who added to our overall experience.

The Resort Manager, Mr. Hiru Daryanani and the Front Office Assistant Manager, Miss Maneenuch Sanghaphasak, are two meticulous, attentive and conscientious people who are an asset to this resort. They are personally available with all the warmth of traditional Thai hospitality to make your trip memorable and to ensure you get the most out of your holiday and enjoy the full Intercontinental Pattaya Resort experience.

For us, they really made our stay at this haven truly memorable. We are definitely going to return to this luxury heavenly sanctuary for another spectacular holiday, hopefully very soon!
